Our Story
From humble beginings

Toa Luau Boys

behind the scenes

the Heart of TOA LUAU

Our Roots: Born from Faith, Friendship & Aloha
Toa Luau began its journey in October 2017 when two friends, Pili Lafaele and Dennis Mataia, took a leap of faith with the unwavering support of their wives, Shyla and Kara. Starting with little more than a dream and a deep belief in God, they built Toa Luau from the ground up. Some nights brought only a few guests, but the heart and passion never wavered. From the beginning, they stayed true to the spirit of aloha, trusting that with hard work and commitment, the vision would grow. Years later, that dream has become a vibrant reality bringing warmth, passion, and authenticity to every show.

Collaboration with Community & Partners
One of the biggest blessings along the way has been the opportunity to team up with amazing partners. We’re grateful to work closely with Richard Pezzulo, Director of Waimea Valley, and the entire Waimea Valley team, who help us showcase our luau in one of Oahu’s most stunning locations. Our culinary experience has also been elevated thanks to Chef Thomas Naylor and the talented crew at Kenui Kitchen. What we do is more than a performance. It’s a partnership, a shared celebration of culture, talent, and community.

Our Dedicated Toa Luau Family
We’re proud of every member of our Toa Luau team from our performers to our behind-the-scenes crew. They show up every day with heart and hustle, putting on two shows a day with energy, grace, and authenticity. Their dedication goes beyond the stage. Every week, the entire cast gathers for a two-hour rehearsal, something you won’t see at most luaus. Why? Because we believe in excellence, and our team works hard to sharpen their craft so you get the show you deserve. We love our staff, and we know you will too.

Our Promise to You
At Toa Luau, we’re committed to delivering an authentic, hands-on cultural experience that leaves a lasting impression. From traditional arts and Polynesian dances to storytelling and our high-energy fire knife finale, every moment is built with intention, joy, and reverence for our heritage. This isn’t just a luau. It’s a heartfelt invitation to be part of our story, our culture, and our family. Welcome to Toa Luau. Welcome to our ʻohana.
